What we collect, and why.
In plain language. It covers ansolabs.org, the free tools, and signing in at app.ansolabs.org. Last updated 24 October 2026.
The short version
- The free tools run in your browser. What you type into them is not sent to us or stored by us.
- Browsing ansolabs.org needs no account. The site has no advertising and no tracking cookies.
- If you sign in, we receive your name, email address and Google account identifier from Google, and keep your email address on a list of who has access.
- Please do not enter patient names, record numbers or other identifiers anywhere on this site. None are needed.
The free tools (ELN and PRISM)
- Everything you enter is processed by code running in your own browser. The page does not send it anywhere and does not save it.
- The address of the page changes as you work, after a
#, so you can bookmark or share a profile. Browsers do not send that part of an address to a server. If you copy the link and send it to someone, they will see what you entered. Treat a copied link or summary as you would treat the information in it. - The tools work without signing in.
Signing in
Sign in uses your Google account. Google tells us who you are and we never see your Google password. We ask Google for your name, email address, whether the email is verified, and your account identifier.
- Signed-in session. A cookie called
__Host-anso_sessionkeeps you signed in for up to 8 hours. It holds your name, email address, account identifier and the products you can open, sealed so that only our server can read it. It ends when you sign out or after 8 hours. - Sign-in step. A cookie called
__Host-anso_loginlasts 10 minutes while you move between us and Google, and protects the sign-in from being tampered with. It is deleted when sign-in finishes. - Both cookies are only needed to sign you in. We use no other cookies, and the main website sets none.
What we keep about you
- Access records. When you first sign in we record your email address and the date we gave you free access, so the limit on free access works. If you are given access to a product by hand, we record your email address (or your organisation's domain) against that product.
- Counters. We count how many people were given free access in total and each day. We also keep a running total of how much of your free allowance you have used, against your email address, once a product starts reporting it.
- Removal records. If your access is withdrawn, we may keep a short note that this address was removed, so that access is not given again by mistake.
- These records stay until you ask us to remove them or we no longer need them. We do not sell them or use them for advertising, and we do not use them to send you marketing.
- If you use the “Request access” button, it opens a WhatsApp message to us with your email address filled in. Nothing is sent until you press send.
Who else is involved
- Cloudflare hosts the website and the sign-in service, and protects them. As with any host, it handles each request, including your IP address and what you asked for, and keeps its own logs. See Cloudflare’s privacy policy.
- Google runs the sign-in. See Google’s privacy policy. Our pages also load their typefaces from Google Fonts, which means your browser contacts Google when a page loads.
- WhatsApp is used if you choose a contact button; it is run by Meta under its own terms.
- We do not run analytics, advertising or tracking scripts on this site.
What this page does not cover
This page covers the website, the free tools and sign-in. Our products (Traces, Whole genome reporting and the Anso app) are separate services and are not described here. The product previews on the home page use sample data, not real patients.
Your choices
- Sign out at any time from the portal. That ends your session on our side; you stay signed in to Google, as on any site that uses Google sign-in.
- You can stop Anso Labs signing you in through your Google account’s connections page.
- To see what we hold about you, correct it, or have it removed, message us on WhatsApp and tell us the email address you signed in with.
Changes
If what we collect changes, we will update this page and its date. This is a plain-language description of how the site works today; it is not a contract.
